"We'll see,"
Dustypaw blinked. He wasn't sure what kind of response he expected from Tigerheart but he didn't quite anticipate such a brisk reply. Did she doubt his words? Probably, and he wouldn't blame her if she did, he definitely doubted them at least. But he had to try to live up to his words, as flimsy as they may be. It's undeniable that he's weaker than all the apprentices, his Boar ancestry seems non-existent in his appearance, for all his kit-hood he was teased and denied by his peers. His father doesn't try to hide his disappointment in him and his mother couldn't be any kinder and loving than she already is. But her persistent love and pestering held a sense of pity in it, as if she knew the scorn others felt towards him and tries desperately to fight it back with as much love as she possibly could. He appreciates it, of course, but the smothering has made him sensitive, being able to know and feel love and warmth and then have to experience the polar opposite once he ventures away from his mother scares him. Now, Dustypaw is an apprentice, no longer able to live in the comfort of his mother's shadow, now both of them have duties to uphold. When he was first appointed apprentice Dustypaw felt a dark gloom loom over him, a heavy weight in his chest that almost suffocated him. The fear, it's uncontrollable. Dustypaw is weak and he knows it. Tigerheart must know it too.
Dustypaw heaved a sigh, breathing in deep and letting it all out. He let the cold morning breeze run through his fur and lungs, he had to focus. Becoming an apprentice now will allow him to try to make leeway towards fighting back his fears and becoming a worthy warrior, or maybe that's asking for too much. He looked up at his mentor, he could see Tigerheart's muscles rippling under her dark brown coat, faint scars scattered all over her pelt, each mark surely holding a story of valour and might. This was who he will be learning under, will he be able to live up to her expectations? Well, the answer is obvious...
He was more than aware how he must look compared to Tigerheart, but he wanted to let her know that he wants to try being a good apprentice for her. "I... I will try my best... to not disappoint..."
Dustypaw's voice trailed off into a bare whisper - what was that? Why did he say that?! Why did he open his mouth, openly voice out his insecurities to his mentor who just so happens to be none other than Tigerheart! A fierce and terrifying she-cat, what must she think of him now? His eyes bore into the trees ahead and body stiffened as he tried to remain calm, but he felt the anxiety-induced adrenaline creep up his paws nonetheless. Could this day get any worse?
